Tyler Perry’s new film “Why did I get married?” - filmed in Atlanta
Tyler Perry new film “Why Did I Get Married?” opened in theaters this weekend. I have no idea how much money it made in its opening weekend or where it stood in rankings - I do know that a portion, if not all, of the movie was filmed here at Tyler Perry’s studio in Atlanta. I know this because I spent a day on set as a paid extra. The scene I was in was where Jill Scott’s character and her husband are on the plane about to fly out west for their annual couple’s weekend with friends. Jill Scott’s character is overweight and runs into a problem while trying to comfortably sit in her seat. You’re really not going to like her husband’s character.
From my experience on set, I can say that Tyler Perry is absolutely hilarious. He broke out into his Madea character while filming with her infamous quote, “Go ahead call the popo.” He allowed improvisation and freedom to his actors and served delicious food to his cast and crew.
It would, however, have been pretty exciting to have been in a scene with the well-known Janet Jackson. I heard they had a lot of issues with extras wanting her autograph and pictures. They warned the extras that sort of behavior will lead to dismissal from the film.
So anyways - go see the movie - support Tyler Perry - support Atlanta films.
P.S. If you have never seen Tyler Perry’s movie that made him famous, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, rent it today! It’s hilarious and also set in Atlanta.
