NHL All-Star Weekend
Atlanta is hosting the 56th National Hockey League All-Star Weekend. The game is scheduled for Sunday, January 27th at 6pm.
To entertain all the Canadians and whomever else may be visiting for the big game - here’s a whole slew of events going on this weekend (Highlights - Wyclef show at Tabernacle, Friday night; Usher performance before game; and Alyssa Milano emcee):
Thursday, Jan 24

Bud Light NHL All-Star Concert
Tabernacle (152 Luckie St NW, Atlanta, GA 30303)
Anheuser-Busch will stage a special concert featuring rock band OneRepublic to welcome the NHL All-Star Weekend to Atlanta. Adult consumers 21 and older must have a ticket to attend the concert. Tickets are complimentary and available through Budweiser promotions in area bars, clubs and restaurants and through radio station giveaways.

Atlanta Thrashers Junior NHL All-Stars Youth Hockey Tournament

More than 200 players between the ages of nine and 12 from throughout the Southeast will take part in a youth hockey tournament at two area rinks.

NHL Diversity Luncheon Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Willie O’Ree

The NHL will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Willie O’Ree’s trailblazing debut, becoming the first black player in the NHL. Local organizations will honor individuals in community who share O’Ree’s commitment, perseverance and teamwork. The luncheon also will showcase the documentary Black Ice: The Lost History of the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes, 1895-1925, produced by authors George Fosty and Darril Fosty about the history of blacks in hockey. Verizon Wireless / NHL All-Stars Present an Evening with Wyclef Jean to Benefit Usher’s New Look Foundation

Global superstar, singer, businessman and humanitarian Usher will host a benefit concert featuring performances by Grammy Award-winning musician Wyclef Jean and alternative country band Old 97’s. NHL All-Star Trading Card & Memorabilia Show, presented by Upper Deck & McFarlane Toys

CNN Center will host the NHL All-Star Trading Card and Memorabilia Show, presented by Upper Deck and McFarlane Toys. During the two-day trading card and memorabilia show, fans will be able to meet current and former NHL stars, view the most cherished prize in team sports — the Stanley Cup and collect exclusive Upper Deck trading cards, including Sidney Crosby, Ilya Kovalchuk, Jonathan Toews, members of the Atlanta Thrashers and other All-Stars as part of their wrapper redemption program. The Upper Deck booth also will feature the opportunity to have a personal trading card created as an All-Star or take a few shots on goal through their “Lucky Shot” game. McFarlane Toys has made 3,000 limited-edition Marian Hossa action figures available exclusively during the two-day event. Todd McFarlane, CEO of McFarlane Toys, Creator of Spawn and minority owner of the Edmonton Oilers will be on hand to sign autographs, as will current and former NHL players. Other attractions include a live mural experience created by artist David Arrigo, a collectible pin trading area, a unique creation using trading cards by Guinness World record holder in card stacking Bryan Berg, and a live painting by renowned 3-D pop artist Charles Fazzino.

After the NHL All-Stars take the ice for practice, an All-Star lineup of performers and celebrity hosts will take the stage. Global superstar Usher and actors Taylor Kitsch of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” and Alyssa Milano of NBC’s “My Name Is Earl” will emcee the festivities. The 56th NHL All-Star Game pits the League’s best players against one another in an East-versus-West format. The All-Star Game will be televised live on VERSUS in the United States and CBC and RDS in Canada. NASN and other international broadcasters will provide live coverage of both the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills event and the NHL All-Star Game to more than 115 countries and territories in Europe. NHL RADIO on Westwood One will provide exclusive national radio coverage which can be heard on stations around the United States and Canada as well as on XM Satellite Radio’s NHL Home Ice and NHL.com.
