Kennesaw Mountain - Civil War Reenactments and hiking - What more could a Southern girl really want.
I recently checked out Kennesaw Mountain for a pleasant Sunday hike. I knew this was a battleground during the Civil War and had heard rumors that Civil War reenactments went on here. As I was driving up there with some friends, one of the guys brought up how civil war reenactments work - we found it humorous to think you have to plan out who is going to die and when - and how funny it would be if someone wanted to change history and not die. That humors me…Anyway - back to hiking. I rate this hike easy and great for beginners. There’s lots of families there, friends walking together, and individuals getting a nice workout. I was also suprised at how many people brought their dogs. So pets are allowed - and there’s lots of them.
I do hate when hikes end at a parking lot. I think the people who put the effort into hiking to the top should be the sole recipients of the beautiful view. This view shows you downtown Atlanta, Stone Mountain, and alot of suburbian cluster homes.
So basically - if you’re looking for a mild, easy hike, close to the city or have the hope of catching a Civil War reenactment - check out Kennesaw Mountain. If you want something more challenging with a more natural setting, head to North Georgia or a fav. hike spot of mine Sweetwater Creek.
