Atlanta cameo in movie “Into the Wild”

As part of my love for the city of Atlanta, I do get excited when our city gets mentioned or makes an appearance in Hollywood blockbuster movies. I recently rented last year’s hit film “Into the Wild.”
The movie is based off the true story of a young man who graduates from Emory University and gives up all his money and posessions for his desire to live alone in Alaska. The parts of the story that take place in Atlanta are actually filmed here as you see scenes from Emory campus, the I-85 exit sign for Peachtree Dekalb Airport/ Emory University, and the downtown skyline.
There is also a scene that shows a shot of a bus with Braves on it and a group of recent college grads who cheer for the Braves upon entering a restaurant. I also noticed the restaurant the main character’s family eats at after the graduation ceremony is McCormick’s.
Anywho — besides the Atlanta appearance, I definetly recommend watching this movie. It’s a nice reminder of the important things in life.
I was also told that the actor playing the lead did all of the stunts himself — which is impressive considering he goes kayaking down the Colorado River alone and with no experience.

McCandless’s story is tragic, but then so many people have benefited from hearing it… a couple of years of hitchhiking led to his story challenging thousands (millions?) of people to reexamine their lives
