Since I am a UGA grad, I am pretty familiar with AthFest. It’s pretty much a BIG music festival. Think of Music Midtown, but with smaller crowds (more enjoyable), original music, up and coming huge stars (Lets remember REM and B-52s started in Athens), and the best parts…. it’s in Athens… Do you even know how cheap it is to drink in Athens??

The 12th annual, five-day music and arts festival to be held in historic downtown Athens, GA, a town long renowned for its thriving music scene. For the past eleven years, this annual event has showcased the best in local, regional and nationally recognized Athens-based talent. From 2005-2007, Athfest was included in the “Top 20 Events for June” by Southeast Tourism Society.

• Music –
Over 150 bands & musicians performing on two free, all ages outdoor stages (Wed., June 18 - Sun., June 22) headlined by Dark Meat (Fri.), Modern Skirts (Sat.) and Dubconscious (Sun). Over a dozen venues throughout downtown will also participate in the “Club Crawl” (Fri., June 22 – Sat., June 23). Club Crawl venues require a cover charge or a $15 wristband for entry. Performers for 2008 include Dead Confederate, Twin Tigers, Cinemechanica, We Vs. the Shark, Centro-matic, A. Armada, Pegasuses XL, Elf Power, Contraband, Venice is Sinking, Velveteen Pink, Folklore, Don Chambers + GOAT, Bloodkin, Ken Will Morton and others.

Fri., June 20 Outdoor Stages (5-10 p.m.) and Club Crawl (8 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.)
Sat., June 21 Outdoor Stages (Noon-10 p.m.) and Club Crawl (8 p.m.-2:30 a.m.)
Sun., June 22 Outdoor Stages (noon-8 p.m.)

ALSO - my nearest and dearest friend, Caroline Monroe, is playing on the outdoor main stage in front of 40watt on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. You have to check her out!!
